Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I have a bit of a weird feeling about everything at the moment. Maybe it's because it's almost Grundlewort mating season - did anyone else know that they actually fly north around this time of year, despite the cold and wind?
They go towards the things that everyone else seems to want to get away from.
It kind of reminds me of me and this virus.

[Hexed to those interested in helping with Luna's virus ideas thing]

Okay. I've found an empty classroom, it's down the corridor we head down for Transfiguration at the end on the left hand side. I've visited it a few nights in a row, and it never seems to have anyone else in it. It's small, but I think it'll be fine for us.
Currently, we know (or think we know) these things:
1. It's no longer contagious once it's taken the individual's magic from them.
2. It seems to be going after more purebloods - maybe this is due to the type of magic?
3. It doesn't seem to go after any one gender more than the other.
4. Prof. Slughorn believes it seems to have a life cycle - does this make it bacterial or parasitic etc?

Does anyone have anything else to add to this?
I propose we meet on Monday evening at 9pm in there.
Who's in?

I've been thinking. If this thing kills magic, is it wise to try and find magical things to defeat it?
Maybe we should try muggle remedies?

I think we need to start making a serious effort into looking into the virus. Pool our efforts.

A week's worth of detention is worth a new piece of knowledge, in my book.

Hexed only to friends

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I don't think this virus can be passed once the magic's gone from the person that originally had it.
In fact, I'm very sure that it can't.
Do we tell the teachers this?

Day two.
Again, no ill-effect to mention as of yet. Again, doing charms, even slightly more complicated ones, appears completely inhibited.
Not even a runny nose.
How are you feeling?

Day one.
Current notes:

No headaches, no fever. No flu-like symptoms. Slight aching of left arm, probably due to sleeping on it funny.
Managed to perform several simple charms this morning, suggesting magic most definitely unaffected.
Hard not to feel slightly triumphant, but must remember it is very early days, and must avoid unnecessary contact with other students just in case. Oh Merlin I hope not, this seems so risky now in retrospect... That shouldn't be too difficult; I am rather distant much of the time anyway.

I've been thinking a lot, this past week.
If you've had the virus, would you still be contagious once the magic is just gone?
I'd very much like to know...

[Hexed to Michael]
If it's alright with you, I think I'm going to try and find some way to see you.
I want to see if this thing's contagious once the magic's gone... if you're okay with that. And if you can read this without the magic.
Obviously, staff won't allow this, and you can't hex anything in reply. Hmm, if it's okay with you for me to try, then just answer with the word Unicorn. I'll know then, and nobody else will.

Much as I'd like to think we might get out of here for the Christmas break, I'm not sure that it's going to happen.
I've been thinking about it, and without scaring anyone, what's going to happen if the quarantine isn't over by the end of the year?

Really, being left in charge of a beast this amazing is quite a fantastic opportunity. Very interesting choice for a project, I must say. I fully intend to study this as much as possible, I mean, I'm sure that other than being highly poisonous there must be something else acromantulas are good at, right?

Quarantine?
I know it's in everyone's best interest, but being cut off seems somewhat... well, it makes me yearn to be outside somewhere, though I know that this is impossible.

Oh, a hallowe'en ball. I really need to go and sort out a costume and all those sorts of things.
I'm sure I'll think of something.

I do enjoy this time of year, the moon always seems bigger, you can see it better, I'm sure.
Daddy says there's some sort of magic to the moon that we haven't yet explored. Sometimes I wonder if it's something I should look into in more than the astrological sense.

I am highly shocked and saddened to hear this news - there are so many questions, how and why and whom? It's a terrible loss, I wish there were something that we could do.

[To the original DA members]

Do you think there's anything we can do? Should we be doing something?

I will be, as usual, distributing copies of the latest issue of The Quibbler on the train back to school, though I'm not sure how many copies I'll be needing.

Would anyone like to reserve one?

I don't think this virus thing is much to worry about. Daddy and I believe it's something to do with the currently bizarre and unusual migration pattern of the Buffleworts combined with the lowered numbers of Bantlegrind plants currently in English forests.
It's probably just a side effect - I mean, there's no steadfast proof it's anything more scientific.

It seems odd to think we're so close to another year at Hogwarts. I'm quite looking forwards to it, seeing as I missed most of last year. My summer's been busy, Daddy and I have been traveling to get new ideas for articles in The Quibbler, and I think we have some interesting information - not to mention another Snorkack horn, which is very rare and magical.

I suppose that now I'm back I'll have to shop for school items - I'll be needing new books and such. Mine appear to be missing within the school somewhere. Maybe new robes, too. For that I'll be in Diagon pretty often from now, it's impossible to do it all in one sitting.
